I may be old fashioned, but I was taught that Russia was part of the continent of Asia. It would seem, if The Eurovision Song Contest is to be believed, that half the world is now European. I mean is Isreal in Europe or Turkey? Maybe the contest should be re-named The Former members of the USSR song contest?
Don't get me wrong I'm not predjuded against the other competeing nations, in fact I thought the Russian entry was pretty good and I liked the skating. But surely the scope of the contest has out-grown the original concept.
At the end of the day it seems that most nations that enter The Eurovision don't consider that the UK is part of Europe any more. They probably see us the 51st state of America, and whose fault is that?
