Ducati Wear & Tear

malx, the biggest killer for me over the years mate has been stone chips. no matter how i try not to, i still get em. I even had paint protection film installed, of course a rock the other day missed it all and chipped it back to plastic..doh..other than that i wash and wax and my 02 model still comes up alright...don't stress mate, ride and enjoy it. Nice ride by the way.

Patrick, nice work on yours too.

Indeed - usual wear and tear is a given but when it's on such a beautiful bike, you notice every chip. I'm with you there!

I have a couple of stone chips that have taken it back to white, my left fender is showing wear through to the white where my left knee rests. General little scratches everywhere and even though I have the clear plastic protection on the side of the tank, the paint is looking a bit dull on the top of the tank below the petrol cap .... oh, and the black plastic isn't looking so black.

Definitely wax the bike loads - helps those buggies skim and bounce off the plastics .... shame it doesn't have the same impact on those stones.

But I've done 9k miles on her and she still looks good, clean, shiny and stunning going down the road, so I have to heave a sigh and think, yeah, well, we're all getting old - she's just coming with me

Thanks for the tips. I have the cover because I park the bike on the sidewalk when I'm at work (locked) and cover it so cops don't write it a ticket. It's what most people do in NYC, some take their plates off, some scratch out their VIN #'s.

Instead of hiring a detailer (what I usually do) I'm going to go and spend all of that money on stuff and do it myself. I'll be posting a wishlist for that today to check out.

From what I know about owning a black car, even if you do get rock chips/scratches and etc... 95% of them are repairable with a good detail, claybar, and some wax. I just worry about the things in advance so I can prevent them, and not have to get a bad back scraping them off.
