I did the motorcycle safety course and got my M2 license (in Canada this has no restriction, other than 0.00% alcohol).
I got a perfect score on my M1 exit road test and feel very comfortable on a mid-size motorcycle, so I am now looking at the Ducati Monster 696 as a starting bike.
I went to two different dealers. The first one was a Ducati dealer and the guy there said that the light body, superior breaking and gradual acceleration make this a good beginner bike. I was somewhat skeptical, but I then went to a general dealer and he basically said the same thing, even though he had many other brands and motorcycles in the showroom.
So, my question is: would this make a good first motorcycle? The promise of gradual acceleration and the abs system make me feel very confident. Also, I can't believe how cheap the brand new 2012 model is. Are there any real downsides?
