ducati hypermotard questions?

im 17, 5'8 130 lbs. and really want a motorcycle. i have been looking for a while, and i dont really like the crotch rockets and this ducati seems like it would be better, and easier to ride. is this true? i have never drove a motorcycle, but i have been riding dirt bikes for a few years now. do you think this would be a good bike for me? and im not familiar with motorcycles, so how many gears does it have? thanks.
 
Sorry - I don't think this is a good place to start.

Bikes in this class, big engined machines with short wheelbases can be a real handful, even for experienced riders.

I don't understand what you mean about having ridden dirt bikes but that you are not familiar with motorcycles.

How about something like the SM400? Similar type of bike, but much more manageable machine that won't cost more than the bike payment to insure for a new rider.

The Hypermotard has a 6 speed tranny.
