Hey there,

I have a Monster 696. With 2K on it. I also have it serviced almost 1000 thousand miles ago.

I have to go abroad for at least 4 months and I am worried that how will I keep the bike in a running condition. I was thinking of doing following things

- Disconnect the battery and putting it on Battery tender
- Put fuel stabilizer in the tank so that Fuel doesn

It's best if you can to ride the bike in order to run through the gas that's in the tank then fill the gas tank with fresh gas then add the fuel stabilizer and then run the bike enough to get the fresh stabilized gas run all through the fuel system. Lastly re-top off the tank with fresh gas. Topping off the tank may not actually be needed for your bike since it's really done to make sure condensation doesn't corrode the inside of a metal tank during a long layover, but it is important to get rid of any old gas, get fresh stuff in the tank, stabilize it and run the bike for a bit. Also a good idea to replace the old oil with fresh oil (and replace the filter as you normally should for an oil change). Fogging the cylinders with fogging spray is always a good idea if you can do that (pull the plugs and just spray some fogging oil into the cylinder, put plugs back, and then turn the engine by switching into a higher gear and pushing the bike a bit. You can get fogging spray at any auto store or most any big box store. Some would say to plug the exhaust outlets to prevent moisture from entering the engine via the exhaust. I've never done that but could understand why it is done. If you had carbs you would drain those but not an issue on a fuel injected bike. Definitely keep it indoors and cover it with a proper cover (something that breaths so it doesn't trap moisture).
