Dual sport dirt bike..Read!..?

So, im fifteen, almost fifteen and a half. and my dad wants me to get my motorcycle permit(wierd, i know), trust me, i want to get it to! well, i need to get myself a dual sport dirt bike. we were thinking a 250-400 cc bike. Im about 5'9". It needs to be street legal. and it needs to perform well on street and on dirt, more importantly dirt.

Ive been riding a honda crf150, and i really like the hondas. So, any hondas would be good. My price range is up to about 2800 dollars.
Im obviously buying a used, because no new street legal dual sports cost less than 2800 im pretty sure.

Love my Suzuki DRZ 400e. But you may have I problem getting one for your price used that is in decent shape. I've owned a honda XR500 and the Yamaha dual sport 500 and this bike is just better.
 
This may sound odd, but if you look on Craigslist you'll find quite a few Honda XR650's (dual sport, street legal) for less than $3k, easy. It's somewhat harder to find a 250, but if you look around enough and be patient you'll find a early 90's XR250.
