i know someone who has a problem with cocaine. they have agreed to and offered to take drug tests. any idea how we would go about this? do we contact a doctor?

thanks so much, this helps a LOT.

Hi

I would suggest calling your local hospital and asking for a referral. Just reach a main nuraber and tell them what you want. Another suggestion... when I go for my bloodword, there are signs indicating that drug test kits are available.

However, if your friend is really serious about getting off cocaine, he will need some real, live support. NA meetings are a great start. Also, a doctor who can work with him. A psychologist or a clinical social worker are excellent resources to help find the underlying reason for the use. We really get an addiction under the best control when we begin to delve and discover the reasons for our drug abuse.

Good wishes

Hello sdawg and welcome to the boarRAB,

I agree with Reachout's reply regarding your friend getting more help then random UA's (urine analysis). Even if the person has stopped abusing drugs, there is a good chance he/she will use again. It's very important to address all the issues surrounding drug abuse.

Regarding drug tests - here in Toronto, we have a store called Shopper's Drug Mart. They carry drug test kits (for urine) which test for Opiates, Cocaine, Alcohol and Benzo's. I'm not sure where you're from, however you can try calling your local pharmacy. The bigger the name, the better chance they might carry these kits.

Good luck,

Head to your local drug store. Most major pharmacies sell drug testing kits (about $40) - a little price, but available at any time. Also, look in your yellow pages for Drug Testing laboratories. Many cities have them and they are usually much cheaper ($10/visit). Good Luck!

I'm wondering who would be monitoring self-administered drug tests. It seems that working with an addiction specialist might also be a good place to start.
