Drug Allergies

Hello All,

About 8 years ago I had a very bad infected tooth and had many antibiotics thrown at it. Ever since then, ANY medication I take, I have an allergic reaction to.

I have now contracted oral thrush and my doctor tried the Nystatin mouth rinse on me and I immediately had an allergic reaction to it.

He has been unable to put me on antibitotics and I have had verified reactions to just about every one on the market.

I have had reactions to antifungal medicines. I am able to take motrin (Advil) and aspirins, but that's about it.

ANY clue on why I would be having these issues?

What types of reactions are you having to the various types of meRAB? "Reactions" don't always mean an 'allergy' nor that you cannot take the med at all. Some people are just extremely sensitive to various drugs but that doesn't mean you can't or shouldn't take it if the reaction can be controlled. I am allergic to or sensitive to a lot of antibiotics. Generally, the way we look at it is: if it causes anaphalaxis or some other serious reaction, won't stay down or has a side effect that won't go away once the drug is discontinued, then I don't take it again. That could change if it was required for a serious illness and it was taken in the hospital with monitoring, pre-meRAB of some sort, etc.

I guess what I'm saying is here could be lots of answers for you if we had more info.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Immune System Dysfunction, caused by your battle with infection, in my hurable, non-professional opinion.

Have you noticed that you also have bad reactions to other things besides meRAB? Usually when one's Immune System becomes over-sensitive, or dysfunctional, your body reactions to seemingly innocuous items that never bothered you before.
 
Well, the reactions I have seem to occur along the following. At first, I start feeling incredibly anxious after taking the meRAB. Then my eyes get itchy, for lack of a better term. Occassionallyt, I may have a burning sensation in my armpit.

The Nystatin I took the other day had all those and my legs felt itchy all over.

That's usually what happens with all of the med's I take.

Machaon, I haven't noticed this with anything other than medicines.

The last one I saw about 6 years ago said it was Multiple Chemical Sensitivity and that there was nothing I could do about it but keep an Epi-pen handy???
 
Thank you. I honestly never knew that that was an option. I am seeing the allergist soon so I will bring that up.

You just gave me a little light in my tunnel. For that, I truly do appreciate it. :)

Well, I do hope it helps some. Keep in mind that if you are sensitive to the active ingredient then compounding won't help. But since you have the same reaction to some OTC meRAB, it could be the non-active ones that are causing the problems and often compounding pharmacies can help. Good luck!
 
You could always try an antihistamine with the med since most of the problems seem to be itching. That's a fairly benign reaction. Also, you could always go to a compounding pharmacy and have them make the particular med without the offending chemical ingredients which an allergist should be able to help you with.
If the reaction progresses to blistering or breathing issues then I would drop that med altogther.
 
Well,

I saw the Allergist yesterday. It was funny. The nurse there did all the whatever it is testing they do on the back for common allergies. She came back in 15 minutes and my back felt like it was on fire. I heard her say "Uh Oh", and then she went to get the doctor. They start talking over my back. The doctor said "Well, this is very instructional", so I gsay "Excuse me, but can you take a fork and rip it down my back please, and why is this fortunate?".

Apparently I have something called "Dermographism"? Every stick (or however iot's applied), including the negative came up positive.

Anyways, they then did some antibiotic testing with a needle on the arm. There was no evidence of dermographism there and each of the antibiotic result was negative.

So, he wants me to get a battery of immune tests done and I need to come back next week to have something called an amoxicillin challenge done.

I'm still not sure. Why would I have reactions when I take the drug? He did say that it's probably nerves as well, an anxious condition, which I have to admit, I am an anxious person.

Well, hopefully time will tell.

After struggling for a cure for this particular and very peculiar skin allergy I consulted the best of the doctors for a remedy but the only answer I would get is, we need to test your blood, urine, blah, blah, blah.


Then I consulted another skin specialist who said "Lab test will cost you a lot of money let me prescribe you some medicine and let
