i'm 16, and ever since first grade i've been bored with school. now i'm going into my junior year, and i'm tired absolutely ready to get out of the monotony of high school. i'm starting this year in a joint-enrollment program, where i'll be attending 2 college classes and 2 high school classes. but my dad knows a few people whose children dropped out of highschool at about my age and immediately enrolled into the 2 year college here. we've decided that, if we can afford it, i'm going to try the joint enrollment for the first semester of school, and if i like the feel of college, i'm going to test for my GED, drop out of highschool, and enroll in college in the spring. now, i don't want anyone telling me this is stupid or a bad decision, because i know a GED is about the same as a high school diploma - neither matter, what matters is a good degree. and my GPA is a 4.0, and taking the SAT this summer i scored at an average of 90% higher than the previous graduating class. and my father and i have discussed this at length, and he told me he was the same as i am when he was my age - bored with school with straight a's. and he lost focused because he got bored, and his grades slipped, never came to school, and got involved in everything but school. and he says looking back now, if he knew this was an option, he would've jumped at the chance. so i'm pretty set on what i want to do. but i was wondering if there's anyone out there who has done the same thing and could tell me about their experience. i have heard that some colleges won't accept you without a diploma, but i've also heard it doesn't matter. dropping out of high school does prohibit me from getting of the scholarships i'm entitled to, but, i'm willing to take the risk. and as for the high school experience? well, i've tasted the high school experience for 2 years now, and it's left a bad taste in my mouth, and if you knew the school i attend, you'd understand completely. so, any suggestions/opinions/personal experiences? thanks.
