Droid x bootloaded is encrypted

Over in the Nexus forum here, I created a thread to see if anyone was switching from the N1 to the DX, one poster mentioned that Moto encrypted the bootloader which kills all options for adding custom roms.

Here's a link about this Android Police though if yuo google it, you'll see a lot of links.

Sad to say that this will cause me to re-evaluate whether the benefits of the DX outweigh having a locked down device. At the moment I can't see how it will but I'll mull it over, since it won't get released until Thursday.

Agreed, but (not to defend moto), it seems both HTC and Motorola are moving to lock down their phones.

For instance, look how hard it was to root the incredible, then there was the EVO which was easily rooted but an OTA closed that off (it has since got rooted again). Also HTC's cease and desist to shipped-roms.com

We may be moving into an era that has manufacturers/carriers trying to make it hard for people to install custom roms

Makes me a bit mad due to the one thing i enjoy about android is the ability to flash custom roms. I really hope that manufactures do not start doing this to all there upcoming devices. Flashing roms to me is a big part of the android experience.

I'm not angry but it does have me rethinking the phone. There's a lot I like about the phone but is the price of non-customization to high for a better cpu/gpu. Easier input/screen reading verizon network (as opposed to att).
