Droid vs Palm Pre

I have been using a Samung I 760. Love the phone but it's slow and freezes on the Internet. I have narrowed it down to the Palm Pre vs the Droid. Although Windows 6.1 is not Droid like, it has a simplicity. For example if I get one of the above mentioned phones can they be backed up with Verizon Sync, or to a SIM card? Will I have to buy applications just to get stsrted?

You can't use a SIM card on any of these or with any Verizon phones at all, e.g. CDMA.

You can use Google Sync to back up and then move to any of these phones. In that respect the Droid might be easier and the larger screen makes it easier to browse, although in my opinion, the Pre might have a more elegant interface but stuck in a much smaller screen.
 
I went on to the Google Sync page and it doesn't show anything about Droid. Also how to get my contacts and calendar in Google?
I appreciate your help!!!!!
