I'm currently on ATT with the $25/mo 450voice + $15/mo unlimited data + $5/mo 200txt = $45/mo total using a Blackjack I I got for free 2yrs ago.
I like the keyboard, the interface is slow and buggy. I have the home screen customized pretty well with weather, email/txt/voice count, etc. I rarely use the web browser because it takes sooo long to load pages, even on skyfire.
Lately, I will get random reboots or it will give me strange messages. I also have to reboot every few weeks or it runs out of memory.
I'm looking for something that will still let me type on a keyboard, but is less buggy and slow and give me a better web experience. Its not very useful to have a data if it takes ages to load up anything. Also, in general I got lots of dropped calls on the ATT network even with 5 bars.
At first I looked into getting the Nokia E72. It seemed similar to the blackjack but without the wimo OS. I tried the e71x in the store and liked it, although I didnt like they keyboard so much. I'm also not sure if I can customize the home screen like on wimo. I couldnt try the browser because the data was active. E72 would be about $500-$600 for an unlocked phone. If I am able to get an unbranded/unlocked phone and switch SIMs, I THINK I can keep my $45/mo plan, otherwise my plan would go up $20/mo, in that case, I'd prob be able to just get the e72 when it comes out for $100 or $200. $580-$680.
I also looked into sprint where I can get a free blackberry tour. The keyboard seemed about the same as the e72 to me. I wasnt too sure about the interface, I think I might like the e72 one more. I'm also not sure if I can customize the home screen like on wimo. Its important for me to beable to glance down and see the highlights (weather, email, txt, voice messages, etc). i think I'm least interested in this one. Tour would cost $0, but about $10/mo more. So $240
The the droid came out. I have always stayed away from touch screens because my fingers are too big to type. I even have trouble on the Iphone. With the slide out keyboard, I can type about the same as on the blackberry and e72. With the larger screen I can type in landscape mode. I can do one finger typing in portait mode. It seems like I can do alot of customization on this phone. It also seems like i'd have the best web experience on this phone. I think I've gotten caught up in the hype of the droid, but I've never used android. It seems to have alot of potential, but $510 is alot of potential.
The cost is over 2yrs
My cheapest route is the tour, but I also like the phone the least so far. However I've never used blackberry and have heard alot of good things so its hard to tell
The e71x seems to have gotten lots of good reviews and the e72 is suppose to be an upgrade. It would be about the same cost as the droid.
So right now its between getting the droid or waiting for the e72. and possibly just saving the money and getting the tour. I am "assuming" that the sprint network is similar the verizon network since I can roam onto it.
