Droid or BB9700?

I am/will be a first time personal smartphone buyer. I have a bberry through work but prefer a separate personal device.

I am on T-mobile currently with no contract. Thinking about moving to verizon (though for some reason am not excited about it - pricing, mainly).

I will miss the BBerry messenger if I move away, but that's not a deal breaker. I've typed on the droid and am a little worried about my adaptability & big fingers.

A couple questions that I would love advice on:

If I move to verizon, am I crazy to pay full retail for a droid (maybe storm2) to not have any contract?

Is verizon's 3G network so much better that I should pay around $30/month more than t-mobile? (+/- a few bucks)

Should I just go 9700 on t-mobile and upgrade to the opera browser?

I just don't like any of t-mobile's smartphones except for the 9700.

So confused...thanks for any help.

i fully recommend droid. if you enjoy blackberry, but aren't a total blackberry freak (the kind that relies on its email system for multiple accounts include outlook exchange), well droid provides 1-ups on all the features that count. you would not be crazy to pay a little more for your service. you will get more out of your phone than ever before with the speed of real 3G. T-mobile is a great provider, I just think you will enjoy it a lot more with an ultra-fast droid device. I dunno about paying full retail ;0 you could, but doesn't $199 sound a lot better? put the money in a savings in case you feel like disconnecting later. It's a $175 ETF until a few more days from now (then it is increasing for smartphones). If nothing else, grab yourself the Droid now so you can see if you would really enjoy it.

Thanks, much, for the reply!

I had done the personal comparison and had decided that I prefer options/flexibility over $400 -- locking into a contract vs. full retail.

Your post tells me that I might even have a lower cost option "for a few more days?" I have missed that and will look into it tomorrow. If I can terminate a contract for only $175, then I'm all adroid.

Thanks for the feedback. I don't need multiple accounts (bberry) and have been curious about the true value of verizon's 3G vs. t'mobile.

Thanks, again.

If you move to another carrier, makes sure the new on has coverage where you will need it. Not smart to move just for a phone and without doing your homework on coverage.

Thanks, much.

I definitely have good verizon coverage.

Question on the Droid - any concerns about the minimal local capacity for running apps? I heard it's only 256k for app management?
