I was giving a drinking in public violation by a rookie bike cop...In belmar NJ about 1am. He gave me a written citation. On the back it says a $280.00 fine.

What should I do?

shoul i pay the fine and thats it? Or Im thinking take my chance and break it down by showing up to court and pleading not guilty?
what if i bring a witness that was there at the time, and him say i wasnt drinking? im over age, and theres no prooof the bottle was mine

Public drinking is against the law, so it wouldn't have mattered if you got it from a real cop or a rookie. I would say pay the ticket unless you can somehow prove that you WEREN'T drinking, but I don't really see how that would be possible.

Was the fact that drinking is not allowed clearly posted? You could plead not guilty ask the court for a fine reduction.

"there is no purpose in pleading not guilty."

If you get ticket for a summary offense you have to plead not guilty to get a trial.
