Dragon Schmagon

Just got back from my trip to the Dragon. That ride is no longer worth it. The bad news is that there are cops everywhere on the 11.2 miles. The good news is that we didn't see a single cop anywhere else within 250 miles!! The roads down there are not to be believed! The 1098 was a DREAM!

I posted a thread a few weeks ago and a guy "Blavernia" replied. "Brian" lives down there and said he was happy to show me and my buddies some good roads to ride on. WELL, let me tell you. Brian wasn't kidding! He took us out for a 250 mile ride that was nothing short of FANTASTIC!!! Rolling, long, consitant curves....one after another. 50, 60, 70, 80 miles an hour. Curve after curve. Perfect roads, perfect weather, perfect day!

Brian, thanks for sharing your routes with me, Kyle and Tim. Riding that RZ is a HOOT, right? The MV Agusta was outstanding and I hope you enjoyed the ride on the 1098. The three of us are talking about a spring trip! We'll let you know.

PeeWee,

Great News!!! I am going to the dragon for a full week later this month with a friend of mine who also rides a Duc. I am hoping to hook up with Brian for some fun rides. Thanks for the report.

Brian knows the roads and is a REALLY good rider. He said he toned it down a bit for us. He obviously knows EVERY turn. It was a blast riding directly behind him as I figured "If he can make the turn at this speed, then so can I"

Our favorite road was the Cherohala Skyway! The most consistant, continuos curves I've ever ridin. Went back there everyday, several times.

Send me a PM and I'll send you pics if you want.

It's been my opinion for years the Deal's Gap is WAAAYYYY over-rated, and the roads within a 100-150 mile radius from the Dragon are FAR better than the Dragon itself! I've been meaning to do the Cherohala Skyway ride for some time....perhaps this weekend when I'm home!

That's really funny. Brian never tones it down for anybody. He, myself and another MV guy (DYLJim) ride together frequently and call these roads home. We are lucky guys.

Come back and visit as much as you can...but, the Dragon is a waste of time these days. Too many other great ones to ride...

Peewee,

PM sent. Thanks I called Brian yesterday and left him a message. Even if he doesn't have the time to go riding I would love to know which roads other than the Dragon are fun. Talk to you soon and thanks for the post.

Anybody thinking of going to the dragon better watch this first:

One THP unit per mile...

Dont waste your time, go elsewhere, the THP have gone too far.

That can be a critical error, especially following a better rider. Don't ever do that or you'll just end up a story.

"Hey, didja' hear about Peewee1703? He......."

Wouldn't follow someone off a bridge either. I meant that after watching him ride for a while I could see how he was taking curves and how my ability compared to his and was comfortable with the pace he was setting. Therefore, unless my spidey sense tingled, I used his entrance into a curve as a gage and made my entry pretty much the same. WAY better than going it alone for the first few times.

Great to have a guide no matter how you slice it!
