Dragged a Knee today - - First Time!

So is it safe to say that it would behoove the rider to have the same body position so they can stick their knee out the same distance/position every time?

Because if not, they could be changing how much their bike is leaning every time they choose a different body position?

Ultimately, throwing off how much of a safety margin they have?

I was in the exact same position as you at the start of the year. After 30+ years of dirt bikes and cruisers, I bought my first sport bike and wanted to learn how to ride properly.

However, a parking lot is not my first choice for "go fast" riding. Panic stop or slow maneuver practice is ok but not kneedragging - IMO.

Check out these guys http://www.sportbiketracktime.com/schedule2009.html or a similar outfit in your area. After one of these days, I am willing to bet your parking lot days will be over.

I wonder if you read the bit where he was following the guide and drills in Lee Parks book? This wasn't 'high speed' in the car park, it was witches hat (sans witches) and starting cornering form about 20 mph and slowly increasing the speed up to his touch at somewhere like 27 -29. Safe environment, alone and cleaned down area.

5's been to the track now and had more confidence than most first timers and is keen for more.

This thread confirms to me just how rude and inconsiderate "fellow riders" are and can be. I have to commend Mr. Five for keeping up his optimism after seeing all the negative sarcastic remarks that have been made.
Why is it that all the seasoned riders feel its "cool" to rag or tease someone that isn't quit learned or skilled yet.
If someone is seen on the street with full leathers on there laughed at, or if they show up at the track with a brand new Ducati there viewed as a poser "wanna-be" racer.
I'm sure if some of you were to see Mr.Five in his parking lot practicing you would have laughed your ass off thinking "what a nerd".
Mr.Five your a bigger man then me. I have often wanted to take my leathers and bike to an open parking lot and do the same but I fear the ridicule I would get from "fellow riders" passing by.
Keep it up Mr.Five...you inspire me.

+1, Everyone of us sucks ass compared to Rossi...do you think he would be commending, or ridiculing a rider for getting his knee down for the first time? Congrats Mr. Five!

Farkin hell listen to you guys we got passed this about 20 posts ago move on ....and to make the point loud and clear it my initial jab wasn't about getting his knee down or his style it was about doing it in a car park which IMO is plain stupid and should be done at a track but you guys wan't to drag it up again not me.

My guess would be if you rang Mr Rossi and said "Hey Val got my knee down in the carpark today what do you think " I don't reckon he would patting you on the back and saying well done .
