hi everyone hope all is well with everyone. went to the dr's today and was told to start physical therphay. kinda of worried about tha because i'm still having sciatica pain and alot of lower back pain. he wants to try to strenghten my right leg due to that fact it is getting weak and thats where the sciatica pain is down the back of my right leg. i am 4 months post op and was hoping to be better than i am at this point. he told me to apply for social security disability and mabye later down the road i can be re-trained since im young yet. he is thinking that its scar tissue that is causing all the pain. if its not better by my next appt. then he's going to send me for a mri and he said if its scar tissue they have shots they can put in there where it is and it will break it up. has anyone heard of it or had that done? im still on lortab every 4 hours for pain and amitrypline 50 mg at bedtime and my sleeping pill and a new one gabapentin 3 times a day. im starting to feel like a druggy lol. was hoping to go back to work but i guess thats out of the question. going crazy staying home because im so use to going to work. anyone having the same problem as i am? any advice would be great.. thanks for letting me vent.... just tired of the pain and dont know what to do with so much free time. thanks again and god bless you all!!!! halfpint

I was about 4 months post op when I started PT. It really helped to decrease my pain. I think a lot of my pain at that point was from weakness. I will never be painfree, but keeping my core muscles as strong as possible has been key for me in keeping my pain as much under control as possible.

Keep lines of communication open with your therapist. If what they want you to do causes pain, tell them, but also make sure they can see that you're willing to work hard and that you want to get better. If you can, find a therapist who has done a fellowship and has done special training in orthopedics. The right therapist makes a big difference!

The sciatic pain may take time to calm down, but maybe at least your lower back pain can be improved.

I hope it goes well.
