I tried to join the army national guard 3 years ago, i went to take my asvab, picked my job, and talked to the pyschologist, i told them i used drugs as a teenager. they didn't say i was disqualified at but that they wanted 3 reference letters. I never got the letters back to my recruiter because i decided not to join due to personal issues with my wife and family. I year ago I went to join the Active duty army and after several months of my recruiter saying everything was good to go, he told me "oh its not gonna work because you were dq'd from the army 2 years ago" we had told him everything about the previous situation and thought it was fine. but come to find out i was accepted to the national guard but just hadnt been sworn in yet, but no one ver contacted me. so me not showing up again with the reference letters got me dq'd. the recruiter said thoes types of dq's usually only stay in the system for 2 years but sometimes (and in my case) possibly 5. So now a year later I am wondering if I will be accepted to the marines or if it will be a waste of time. Do the disqualifications carry over from each branch?
