Can anyone tell me if this is normal?

After about 2 days on Doxy my face cleared up almost perfectly , clearer than its been in 3 years and i would NEVER feel oily. But after about 2 weeks, the acne started to come back and I got that oily feeling again... not as bad as before i took it , but still coming back nonetheless and dissapointing.

Ive been taking 50mg once a day.

So far I have been on it for 24 days.

I have heard people say they get worse at first then better, but not my situation? Is this normal?

Hmmm...50 mg once a day seems very low. When I was prescribed Doxy, I took 100 mg twice a day. Maybe your doc will up your dosage for you if you explain that you're not getting the good results that you got at first. You could also try Minocycline...that's what I'm on now & I like it A LOT better than Doxy.

one of the main reasons I like Mino better is that you can (and should) take it on an empty stomach. This is much more convenient for me. Plus, the Doxy made me VERY nauseas every time I took it, regardless of how much food I ate with it. Good luck with your appointment!

I agree, 50MG is to low.
You need 100MG and take one capsule a day.
Doxy is the best

peachy420, the same thing happened with me when I first took doxy.
I had a bad stomach ache.
It takes like 3 days for your body to get used to the Doxy.
By the forth day my body was used to the doxy and it did wonders for me.
It totally cleared me of my acne.
I would tell people, when you first take Doxy, dont take it on an empty stomach.
I would say by the 4th day you can take it on an empty stomach.

I took the Doxy for about a year and suffered through the nausea almost every time I took it before I finally asked the derm for something new. I guess everyone's body is different.

Just rang my doc today, he said I could take 2 of the 50s a day and see what happens for a week. So i started on 100 today. I will still keep the appointment with him this week though.

Also during the past few weeks ive been tapering off lexapro (antidepressant), so this may have contributed to the return ... who knows... maybe changing my hormonal balance? )

Although usually going ON to them causing people to flare up.

Thanx for the help guys... Ill book an appointment with the Doc this week.

Peachy: Another doc actually gave me minocycline once, but i hate taking things twice a day so i went with Doxy. However atleast i have a backup.

Thanx

My dr. prescribed me 75mg doryx. It seems to work pretty good. I may ask to up to 100 next time I see him, but the 75 seems to be working.

I have been using Doryx for five months now and have perfect skin. Prior to using it I had awful acne that kept me practically homebound for almost an entire year. My dermatologist prescribed everything under the sun for me and only 100 mg of Doryx in corabination with Retin -A -Micro (to clear up the oily skin) have worked. I started to see results within the first month and have been clear for two months now. Stick with it!!!!!! And bump up to 100 mg - your dosage is too low.

I am on doxy right now. It's been 2 months and a few days since I started it. I'm on 100 mgs twice a day. I did not break out initially, but I had it really bad so it took about 3 weeks for noticeable improvement. I'm skeptical about antibiotics and their long term use, but for some it seems to be the only way to simply manage their acne. I fear I am in that boat, but what to do later on? Will it necessarily continuously get worse each time the acne builRAB up more resistent strains? That is my question. I've all ready been on minocycline beforehand so I don't think that would be a choice for me later.
