Hi, last year I read a couple of books on the fall of the Third Reich and the last few days of Hitler in the Berlin bunker, and found it totally fascinating. Earlier this year I finally watched Downfall, based on the same events, and though I felt a little trepidation going in watching it, I was left stunned for days at how good the film was, and how well it was made, how accurate it was, but most of all how effecting it all was, an incredible film, with some of the finest acting I have ever seen. I know it's been on TV before, but if you've not seen it, then do so. And hopefully report back here next week with your thoughts. For those who have seen it, what did you think?

Film4, Friday 4th of December, 9pm BTW.

I did my quote in the apple translator, I put in 'you will watch this film', so I posted the german translation here, but on your response I thought I'd check mine back in english (reverse the translator) and it said 'they monitor this film'..... I'll stick to my native tongue I think.:D:D

another vote for Downfall here!

Fantastic film and if enough people watch it then they can locate another scene to endlessly take off/parody on YouTube.....

At first,I thought the sub-titles would put me off,but it didn't,not one bit. This has got to be one of the best Bunker films ever.

I saw Downfall on Cineworld a couple of years back and was so impressed with it, went out and bought the DVD when it was issued.

It is a great film, not an entertaining one, but more thought provoking as a once great nation collapsed in ruins around the Chancellory Buildings as Adolf Hitler's Gotterdammerung ended the Third Reich.

Bruno Ganz as Hitler was superb, and he was ably supported by a great cast.

Do not miss it under any circumstances.

I watched it on Blu Ray last week. Stunningly mounted recreation, ironically featuring Russians as all the extras defending Berlin against the Red Army.

Best Hitler film ever.

The "World at War" episode Nemesis, which covers the collapse of the Third Reich, is being shown 1PM on Tuesday Aug 10th on BBC2. It features interviews with Traudl Junge (aka Hitler's secretary, interviewed in English) and Albert Speer (Hitler's Armaments minister). The series was made in the early 70's, so would put Junge in her early 50's, and Speer in his mid-60's at the time.

It is interesting to watch as it seems to show that Downfall - which was made over 30 years later - was a fairly accurate portrayal of life in Hitler's bunker.
