Looks like Double Fine (Broken Age, Psychonauts) will be making another game with the help of Kickstarter. Titled "Massive Chalice," the strategic turn-based game is targeted for Windows, Mac, and Linux.
Massive Chalice is inspired by games like X-COM, Final Fantasy Tactics, and Fire Emblem, with a mix of Game of Thrones' "array of noble families."
The game is split into strategy and tactics. The strategy side has players overlooking a kingdom, where they can arrange marriages or make decisions that will affect the nation. The tactics part will consist of turn-based battles that we all learn to love in strategy games. Massive Chalice will also feature permadeath.
Features of the game include:

  • Your story emerges as you defend against attacks, complete quests, and respond to randomized events in your attempt to preserve the kingdom.
  • Line of sight and fog of war mechanics come into play as your squad explores beautiful dynamic 3D battlefields where danger may lurk behind any corner.
  • Distinct, customizable heroes learn new melee, ranged, and arcane abilities as they age and gain combat experience.
  • Arrange marriage alliances to ensure your heroic bloodlines can handle any future combat situation.
  • Battle alongside your ancestors by equipping your heroes with uniquely powerful Bloodline Relics.
  • Invest your resources in forging new weapons and armor—and gamble on polluting a bloodline by researching dangerous demonic artifacts.
Kickstarter rewards start at $20, which offers a download copy of the game along with a backers-only badge on the Double Fine forums and your name in the credits. Additional rewards include behind the scenes materials, a t-shirt, signed poster and more.
Double Fine is looking for $725,000 to fund the project.
The developer previously launched a Kickstarter in 2012 for Double Fine Adventures, now known as Broken Age. It earned over $3 million on a goal of $400,000. The game is still in development.
Sounds like Massive Chalice could be a promising game for fans of tactical games. What do you think about Double Fine's latest title? Will you be backing the project?
