I don't want to turn this into a rant but does anyone have strong stereo types that they have been labeled with? I've worked in my current department since late summer and everyone thought they had me figured out.
I'll give you an example of myself, I am a guy in his early 30's. People Label me as "bookish" "intellectual" but not really a "nerd" at first which is sorta true. They sorta think like I must know advanced calculus which I don't and listen to NPR all the time.
What kinda got me was, in the last month we got a big change in managment and they relaxed our dress code(we don't deal with the public) mostly for guys. So I don't have to wear long sleeve's in the summer to cover my tattoo's and can wear earrings now. I came into work one day after they changed the rules and a couple of people who have never seen me outside of work about had a heart attack when they saw my arm tattoo's. Like "I'm not the type" or something. I mean, what type am I you know? Anyone else here get a labled slapped on you when people first meet you?
