I think many you know me and I have posted a bit about my recent pain reduction. For those those who don't know me, I will give you a little background....
Five years ago I gave birth to my son. Never had a back issue until he was 3 months old. I started having lower back pain. It got worse and worse. My doctors shrugged it off to "new mommy back". I then got pregnant again a few months later. My back pain/leg pain got much worse and when I was 19 weeks pregnant I had emergency back surgery on Christmas Eve for a very large herniated disc at L5-S1. I went on to have a healthy baby girl. Shortly after she was born my back/leg pain returned. After a year of pain, I woke one day with excruitiating pain and my right buttuck and right thigh was nurab! I had another surgery because my same disc hernaiated again, L5-S1. My neurosurgeon said it was the largest herniated disc he had ever seen in his career. The extreme pain went away, but the nagging nerve pain was still there. This was in Oct 07. Since this time, I have been to over 7 neurosurgeons/orthopedic surgeons trying to find out why I am still in so much pain. I had over 5 MRI's, a CT myelogram, an EMG....you name it. All the doctors agreed: I had permanent nerve damage and I would be in pain like this for the rest of my life. All they could offer was pain medications and a Spinal Cord Stimulator.
So, I have spent the past 3 years living in horrible pain. I was getting ready to explore the SCS. Well, this Septeraber (09) I had a hysterectomy where they removed my uterus and cervix, fixed my prolpases and put in a bladder sling. I was secretly hoping this would take some pressure off my nerves some how and my pain would be better...NOPE. I was still in pain.
Three months later (Dec 09) I had another female surgery. I developed a cyst on my right ovary (they orginally kept my ovaries) and it twisted my ovary...ouch! Well, here is where my story gets interesting....ever since that surgery, my pain has been going away!!!!!!!!!
I am still proceeding with caution, but someting has definitely changed. I have been able to eliminate all of my break through meRAB. I went from 6 oxycdone's a day, to NONE. I am still on my long acting meRAB. This is amazing!!! I am trying to stay optomistic. Even if the pain does return, something made it go away!!!! We are closer to finding out what the real problem is. Could it have been my ovary was pushing on my nerves all along????? Maybe? But something is going on.
My point to my story is NEVER give up hope!! My doctors told me to stop going to dr. to dr....I was wasting my time. WHen it comes to your health, you are never wasting your time.
