Please read the "key points" that the Church states and please try to take them into consideration. Please leave respectful answers to the question: what is your opinion of the death penalty, and what is your reason for thinking so? I dont want this to get out of hand and become a gruesome battle, so dont read anyone elses post and just leave your opinion!
*PLEASE NOTE: THIS IS NOT A REFLECTION OF MY OWN OPINION ON THIS SUBJECT*
Here are some points that the Church states (obviously being against the d.p.) (these are quotes from a source):
1) A dead criminal cannot be reformed, nor make any effort to compensate for the crime committed
2) Mistakes are and have been made in administering capital punishment, killing an innocent person
3) A growing body of evidence shows that the death penalty is disproportionally administered to poor persons and members of minority groups, esp black males. (Those who have money also commit violent crimes, but their resources allow them to work the system to their advantage and typically avoid the death penalty)
