Doing a debate about The Prince?

I am on the con side the topic is The Prince By Niccolo Machiavelli advises rulers that they must only be ruthless and calculating in order to maintain their principality.

I sort of have an idea of what the pro side is going to argue but I am so lost about how to argue against them.
