Dogs barking problems

A few weeks ago I had a letter from the council advising there had been a complaint about my 2 dogs barking after I leave for work. I worked with them and put a few things in place which limited their barking down to half hour after I leave.

The complainant was happy and the council closed the complaint down.

Had a letter this morning, advising that they've re-opened the case and that animal welfare had been called in! I am gutted as in the letter it states they can ban me from having dogs in my flat so I'd have to re-home my two JRT's. My dogs do bark for a bit when I leave but that's all that is wrong, they're always very quiet when I'm home and are friendly girls.

The complainant is notorious for complaining about people's dogs and is home all day waiting for something to happen so he can complain.

I just don't know what to do now that I'm not already doing

We have a similar situation - we have a dog tied up in a back garden near us - and constantly barks day and night and it is doing our heaRAB in. It wakes us up at 5am quite often... I can see how this is annoying...

If your dogs cannot be kept quiet I agree with the person complaining...

We have 2 dogs ourselves and they rarely bark - but never late at night etc.

Good luck getting it sorted..

Perhaps look at getting a dog behavioural therapist in to see if they can do anything. Can you get anyone to visit them in the day for half an hour to limit the time they're on their own?

no idea how well these work Stop No Barking Anti Bark Ultrasonic Sound Train Training Aid Control Dog Collar | eBay

but worth a thought if you havnt considered it already.

I'm surprised that the neigrabroadour agreed to have them barking for half an hour after you leave, but their daily routine is irrelevant if your dog is causing a nuisance.

If you feel your doing everything you can, and the problem is still there, then it's time to either move away from the neigrabroadours that your disturbing, and potentially disturb your new neigrabroadours, or just get rid of the dogs that (IMO) haven't been trained correctly. (We have a jack russell in the house who is silent apart from when my little brother is playing with her)

How do you know who the complainant is?

Dogs barking can be really annoying. If they are barking when you leave for work i assume it's early in the morning?

If i was being woken up every morning by dogs barking for half an hour,i think i would complain too.

Whilst I feel for you, lived with dogs all my life until I moved out of my parents, unfortunately having dogs in a flat is asking for problems. I love dogs to pieces, miss not having one around, but I wouldn't dream of getting one in a flat. Dogs can be noisy, they bark, they whine etc, in my opinion it's unfair to put other people through that if your living in a flat. I will get a dog myself in the future, only when I buy a house though.

I do see your predicament, but maybe having dogs in a flat is just not a good idea?

We had to put up with our neigrabroadours dog barking constantly and I can safely say it was one of the most irritating things I have ever gone through. I understand that your dogs don't bark much, but having gone through the same I can see why the other person is complaining...

I hope you get it sorted though, must be horrible to be threatened to have them taken off you (BTW, this is what happened to our neigrabroadours, although it was never us who complained about the noise).

I think you've got to consider why they are barking and see if there is anything that can be done at your end to resolve the issue, then if that does help think about whether its a good idea to keep dogs in a flat.
My immediate though with a dog barking in this sort of situation is that they're either poorly trained or don't have enough stimulus to keep them entertained. If its a behavioural problem there is still a chance to resolve it.
Ultimately if you can't find a way to control the dogs, you're going to loose them.

found this:

Everything there is to know about chronic barking & how to stop it

A friend who is a vet has dogs herself and to control them barking they have a collar that when they bark squirts a bitter liquid around them which they dont like - it took a few days and now they don't bark as often and never with the collar on!
