doggone problem!!

ok, so i have a pretty high allergy to dogs, and my aunt wants to have my family over the house for dinner and they have 3 dogs. im trying to get out of it, but it's pretty impossible. my aunt is allergic to dogs As Well, but she just deals with it.

i get shots and take zrytec as needed. i have flonase but i Dont take anymore b/c i never noticed anything.

is there anything i can do to pre-medicate myself. they have a pool and patio, so i will keep myself as much outside as possible. should i buy a dust mask or something ?? should i take zyrtec and benedryll and flonase just to make sure ?? i just dont want to get sick.

any suggestions ?
 
Do you HAVE to go? I once went some place because the family wanted me to and I ended up sicker than a dog. Your health is the most important thing and I have become selfish about taking care of myself.
 
i think so.....she really wants me to come up and see her house and all. i mean im sure if i didnt go she wouldnt disown me as her niece lol. but if im in the house for more than an hr im gonna start feeling like crap. she has 2 poodles and a grey hound. i even let one of her poodles stay at my house for a couple hours one day, and i felt crappy the next Day. so no poodles for me.

the reason why i really dont Wanna go is b/c she's an hour away. so even if im all drugged Up and feel bad i wont be able to drive well. ugh. if she was much closer i wouldnt care cause id go home when i wanted.

i just feel like Im being rude If i dont go
 
i feel like no one completely understanRAB, and it makes me depressed. i cant have a normal social life, and people think if they keep the dogs away that it Wont bother me or that Their dogs have magically low dandruff. nothing helps. and it makes being social uncomfortable b/c i always have to ask Potential boyfrienRAB and frienRAB if they have dogs. i never will date a guy again who has a dog because it will come down to choose the dog or me. makes me want to think twice about ever having kiRAB. kiRAB will want a dog and drive me nuts. i will miss out of family functions if there is a dog. ive been on shots for over a yr now, and i still cant tolerate being indoors With a dog for more than 30 min. if i overdue it, im likely to get a sinus infection. and people dont understand until they see you sick. you almost always have to get sick to prove a point. sorry im just venting. i suddenly was feeling depressed about the whole thing.
 
Does using zyrtec BEFORE exposure help? If so, you should definitely just do that. If not, why not meet her halfway for dinner in a restaurant. Tell her your shots aren't working yet and you can't do the dog thing...doctor's orders.
 
nope. my parents live down the street from me and own 3 bichons. after about an hour there, i Cant stop sneezing And itching then my nose stays completely clogged For a day if i stay too long. so im Always testing it out to see if im improving. otherwise, My allergies are great.

i dont Think she'll meet us for dinner. she wants my parents and all to see the new house and pool. i Could stay outside the entire time, but we live In florida. the weather this time of the year is not favorable. i cant just leave after an hour or two Cause they live an hour away; it would be a waste.

maybe i need to Talk to my allergist to figure why it's taking so long to build up a better tolerance. i even have tried Astelin and no help. and of course i irrigate and....nothing.
 
I am very allergic to cats and rabbits (not sure what other animal, but pretty sure NOT dogs).. but I respond very much like you do with sneezing uncontrollably and I get itchy all over my face and my nose and I will sneeze so many times blood starts to appear from my nasal and/or throat.. what's worse is when an asthma attack comes on.. I went to visit my cousin in another state (unbeknowst to me she has 4 housecats?!?!!) I was thinking how in the world will I sleep like this? This cats kept coming around and fur in the house ugh.. I told her that I thought I'd have to stay at a hotel because I am allergic to cats. she then asked if I had ever tried zrytec and no I just usually suffered through my attacks.. we went and bought some and I could not believe that it WORKED. The sneezing STOPPED.. I felt a clogged sensation, but the itching and sneezing stopped at least.. I was quite impressed! I didn't feel overly tired either.

SounRAB like you are already doing all you can with shots etc.. you are stuck in quite the situation.. I think your family may have to just understand that you cannot come due to your allergies acting up so badly. I know my family would not be upset if I was having a medical problem that couldn't be helped. Maybe they will be more understanding than you expect?
