A few days ago, two of our dogs got into a fight. My dog got a wound, which I'm pretty sure was from being bitten. It bled and I wiped the wound and put pressure on it. Today, the wound opened up again. I was reading online about infections and what not. Around the edge of the wound it's black, and when I was putting pressure on the wound, it wasn't like normal blood when it's kind of bright red, it was more dull and darker. I looked at the wound and I couldn't tell for sure if there's puss coming out. I wiped her wound with a wet warm washcloth, and I wiped her would with hydrogen peroxide (I read to do that on another yahoo answers question). I tried to cut the hair that's like on/above the wound, but I couldn't because the fur above it was still attached to skin, and I didn't want to hurt her anymore. Someone said to use an anti-bacterial ointment, but not Neosporin or a triple anti-bacterial ointment. But all I have is a triple anti-bacterial ointment. I also found some sea salt spray that I bought for some of my piercings. I'm planning on trying to get her into the vet on Monday. What can I do in the mean time? Can I use the triple anti-bacterial ointment? Can I use the sea salt spray? Should I tape some gauze over the wound? She likes to play outside and sometimes roll around on her back on the ground, and she's in need of a bath right now, but I don't know if I should give her one with this wound she has. I don't want it to get worse if in fact she does have an infection. I know some signs of infection is sleeping a lot (which she usually does anyways), not eating or eating little (she was eating food fine earlier), and weakness (earlier I grabbed her by her hind legs to bring her towards me, and her front legs collapsed or something, but when she fell down she looked kind of playful; and when she went to get on my bed, her front paws like fell back down on the floor). I was going to see if any of these symptoms continue tomorrow. I just want to do whatever I can to make sure nothing bad happens before Monday. Can anyone help me? It would be greatly appreciated!
I wasn't aware vet offices were open on Saturday's. I'm going to call her vet first thing in the morning.
