Dog whining, why and how to help her?

We have finally mastered walking our German shepherd, she is ALOT calmer than previously was. we have only had her for a year or so (she came from a background of neglect) so she was NEVER walked before we got her.

When we taken her out of the yard she begins to whine, and gets louder the longer and further she goes from the yard, we are not sure why she does this? or how we can help her to calm down.

We think it may be due to being anxious or excited? is this correct? when my husband comes home from work, if she is in the yard as soon as she see's his car she whines really loudly, its like a whine/half bark.

yes, she is probably anxious and scared.. she could all be soo exicted that she just doesnt no what to do... i would reccomed you bringing her favorite toys out and some treats so she is less anxious.. i would also suggeest that she wants you to pet and play with her. try new and exccting games... i hope this helped :) * please make me best answer *

Does she try to turn around or seem like she wants to go back to the house? If so, she's probably stressed about being walked or about leaving her familiar "territory," the house.

If she's fine and seems like she wants to go, she's probably just excited.

It sounds like she loves you very much and her home and doesn't want to leave it. Keep walking her and keep the house in sight so she knows she will be going back. Now as for your hubby She is either happy to see him or afraid of him. Is she wagging her tail? She's happy and probably doesn't want to bark she may have been punished for barking. Is sound like she was abused or neglected pretty bad be patient it will take time but she will learn what she is allowed to do and become more at home just give her alot and I mean alot of love.

It is anxiousness and excitement. Keep up the walking!!!! Congrats on mastering it.

She will stop doing so much of this in a while. Right now it is so new to her and she is getting extremely excited.

My Lab is 10 and he STILL has a low whine at times while we walk!

She is talking to you the same way you talk to her. When you go for a walk make her sit and stay before you leave your home or gate. You go out first and then invite her. Praise her and walk with confidence. During your walk make her m, stop, and down. Let her know you are in command. Praise her when she does this and continue on . Your walks should be much more enjoyable with less whining. The key is keeping her focused on you.
