doesn't a subpoena need to be hand delivered to the person intended to receive?

a subpoena was left in the door of an apartment where a girl was living, but is not there anymore and has a protective order for her by the court and they know she isn't there. The roomate was also left a subpoena and is out of state for the entire month. Are these two individuals going to have a bench warrant issued for them?
