Does your car waste a lot of gas when your sitting in it parked w/AC on?

I live in Central Cali boy it gets super hot here Im at school sitting in my car on my laptop with my AC on low. Im just wondering does your car waste a lot of gas when you have your car on w/ac?
And if your wondering why I'm sitting in my car its because Im waiting for my next class to start and its hot outside and inside is crazy
