Does your bf complain when he pays for you?

My boyfriend usually pays for me when we go on a date, like to a movie, or if we go to dinner or something. I always feel bad when he pays, so I always always tell him that I don't want him to pay for me. That I can pay for myself. But he never lets me. But I feel bad, so I sometimes make him a deal. He can pay for dinner, and I'll buy the movie. I've done that once.
I've also put money in his wallet so that it's not like he's fully paying for me. (he see's when I do this btw, and doesn't take it out to give back to me, so I'm pretty sure he doesn't like paying for me, and he feels its more of an obligation on his part)
Anyways, he is always saying, in front of friends and family that I'm gonna run him out of money. And that he spends way too much money on me,
I sometimes just want to yell at him and say "okay, you don't like spending money on me, you don't have to! i can pay for myself. I never asked you to pay for me in the first place"
But I don't yell this at him because I feel like its an ego issue. Like he wants to feel and let EVERYONE know that he CAN spend money on me. And that he's secure in the job(s) that he has.

I just don't know what to do. He keeps complaining to me. It doesn't really hurt my feelings, it just gets a bit tiring. And I'm not sure if I should confront him or let him give himself the confidence boost he wants.

he sounds like a bit of a wang chung. maybe he doesn't like you chiming in that you can pay for yourself. i hate when girls do that.
 
First, I'm a guy and i have a girlfriend. We are both 19 and we have been together for 5 years. If we go to a movie or dinner or basicly anything then we both pay in different ways. Sometimes i pay for everything and sometimes she enforces to me that she wants to pay but i guess its fine. . We live in an apartment and i dont make her pay and i'm completely fine with it. Just tell him that you want to help and he should be able to understand.
