Does Windows Media Center for Windows Vista record scheduled recordings while closed

if the computer is on? I got a TV tuner card for my computer and set it up. I opened windows media center and set it to record new epsisodes of mythbusters. Im just a little worried that it wont record if windows media center is closed. But i also dont want to have it open 24/7 just to record shows
