Does Verizon charge you to replace your new broken phone with your old one?

Ok so my dog got a hold of my Chocolate Touch and now it loads everything super slow. I was thinking of taking it in to the Verizon store and having them replace it with my old Razar phone because I don't have insurance on the Touch.
Can they do that? Will they charge me?
I have a year contract on the Touch so if I have to keep it till October I will.
