Does unlocking your Nextel phone improve reception?

Honest question i have an I870 and I have been doing a lot of research in unlocking my phone but I am coming to realize maybe it isn't really worth it. Does anyone have a phone unlocked and can honestly tell me it was worth it. The only reason I would consider doing this to my phone is to increase reception nothing more. I want to keep paying my service provider.

P.s. Please don't talk about how to unlock your phone it's just going to get this thread closed just tell me your opinion on the matter.

Removing a subsidy lock from a Nextel phone does nothing to improve your reception. All you are doing is allowing the phone to accept SIM cards from other iDEN service providers. But, as you might already know, there practically aren't any "other iDEN service providers" in the US so it is kinda pointless (unless you are going to another country with iDEN service and plan to use foreign SIM cards while there). FYI, you don't need to unlock a Nextel phone to use a Boost prepaid SIM, but a Nextel SIM will not work in a locked Boost phone. Hope that answers your question. :D
