Have you ever did anything tremendously wrong, and after you realize what you did, you wish you could take it all back? That's what I feel about the night of my birthday, the night everything changed.
" Jocelyn are you ready yet darling? Our reservations are at 8:00 and it's now 7:30" Hollered Renae from downstairs. Jocelyn's mother was a sweet woman, with long flowing golden locks, and eyes to die for.
" Yeah Mom, just hold on! " Jocelyn replied. Jocelyn hadn't decided to wear her hair up or down. After a moment of hesitation, she let the soft wavy hair create a curtain around her shoulders. She would wear it down. Jocelyn picked up her purse and headed downstairs where her Mother and Father were waiting.
" Everything set kiddo? " Asked her Father, Louis. She looked up at her father, his broad face covered with freckles. She got the freckles from her Dad's side of the family. Typical.
" Yup. " She gleamed at her father, looking stunning in his black suit. Her eyes drifted to her mom, her slender body was hugged with a tight green velvet dress. She had picked that out for her.
Jocelyn followed her Mother out the door and hopped in their black, sleek car. She wondered where her father was. as if her mother had read her mind she said. " He'll be right back he just forgot his wallet, oh that man is never on time. " She added with a smile she couldn't hold back.
A few moments later he came back to the car. They drove in silence, only the radio was playing.
They arrived at the resturaunt right on time Following her motehr and father, Jocelyn walked through the door of the La Shav, and sat down at the best table in the house. It was her birthday tonight, she was finally turning 17. Even thought she was slightly older then her friends, Annie Smith and Rowan Rome she felt as though she was younger, way younger. And it didn't help that she had failed her drivers liscence and they hadn't. She had practiced forever with her Dad, she had no idea why she had failed. The instructor Mrs.Gillis didn't help any. She looks like an old prune, grey and wrinkled.
" Honey what did you say you wanted to eat? " Asked her mother, snapping her into the present. She re-looked over the menu taking her time, even though the waitress looked as if though she could her Jocelyn over the head at any minute.
" I think I'll have the special, the noodle soup. " She said, as she smiled at the waitress. The only thing she got in return was a bitter nod and a flick of her hair. Wow was she crabby, thought Jocelyn. When they got served Jocelyn was so hungry her mouth watered. She shoveled the soup in her mouth, not even caring if her mother was petrified that she looked like a homeless person that was just invited in on a buffet. After they were done eating, Renae put the tip on the table, and waved the waitress over to get their bill.
Jocelyn was about to get up to go the car when her father put a hand up to stop her.
" Wait Jocey we have something for you. " He said as he dug around in his pocket for something. He pulled out a long rectangular box and handed to Jocelyn. She was hesitant but she took it. She really hated presents and surprises. As she opened the box, she noticed her mother was looking at her intently. When she looked down at the slinder box she gasped and almost dropped it. It was a singular diamond on a gold chain. She took it out and looked at it from all angles, it was beautiful.
" Oh, thank you so much it's wonderful! " She exclaimed hugging her mother and father. " Would you put it on for me Dad? " She asked still eyeing up the necklace.
" Sure thing Jocey bear. " He said as he reached for the necklace. He unclasped it and asked Jocelyn to left her hair up. As he was hooking it together Jocelyn got the wonderful feeling of being loved. She never had a relationship before, but she knew this was the love she wanted from a boy. When Louis was done she let her hair fall down again. The necklace felt right on her, it felt as though it belonged. She looked down at the necklace that took up the bare surface of her chest. It was just fantastic.
As they were heading out the door of La Shav, Jocelyn got a weird feeling that something bad was going to happen, but she just pushed it a side, thinking nothing of it. Just as she was about to open the door to the back seat her father said something that took her by surprise.
" Jocey do you want to drive? I know you failed but I know you can drive well enough. " He asked with a wink. She didn't know what to say, because at the pit of her stomach she knew she should say no. She held her breath as she opened the drivers door and sat down. Because she was shorter then her father, she had to pull the seat ahead, to reach the pedels properly. This was a mistake.
