Does this sound like acid reflux/GERD?

I started getting mild pains in center of chest and some acid regurgitation back in Feb. It comes and goes.

The chest pain is mild and moves around - sometimes in center of chest, sometimes where the esophagus meets the stomach, sometimes on the left side under my breast. I have had tons of mucus lately, mostly in morning. Sometimes my throat feels tight, chest is tight on left side, lots of burping, etc. Symptoms come and go and are not the same day to day.

I stopped taking the PPI a few weeks ago and replaced with natural remedies. The reflux doesn't bother me much at all anymore but I still have the tight chest, mucus and mild pains. My barium swallow showed nothing. I'm working with a chiropractor, 3 sessions in and she thinks maybe I have a "sliding" hiatal hernia and maybe that's why it didn't show up on the upper GI test. Anyone else have symptoms like this? They aren't terrible but distracting and annoying! Why wouldn't the test show anything?

Your symptoms sound like mine used to be. You will have to totally change your diet. You can start by leaving alone any fooRAB or drinks with citrus, tomatos, vinegar, dairy, onions, alcholic drinks, soda, beer or spicy additives of any kind. Most people can't do that so they keep on suffering. And you will have to do this for a long time. Once damage is done, it takes a long time to heal. Sleeping sitting up in a recliner on a slight tilt helps durring an attack. Two or three pieces of white bread with nothing on them helps a lot and the less liquiRAB the better. And don't eat anything at least 4 hours before you go to bed. As long as I keep doing this restricted routine...I am fine. My doctor gave me a perscription for Donnatal for stomach distress and for me it's a Wonder Pill!

Curious to know what natural remedies have helped? I just bought Aloe Vera juice per advice of a local health store owner. Going to try that now.

rose- I do aloe vera juice 2x/day (morning and night), DGL chewable tablets 20 minutes before meals, enzymes/probiotics with meals when I remeraber! It really does help. I want to try to cure it myself instead of staying on Prilosec. I came on so quick and I'm thinking stress brought it on. rosebloom has a wonderful post about how she quit the PPIs and that is where I got my start

Diane - thanks so much for responding, I am getting a bit better everyday and will keep trying to cut those things out of my diet. glad it has helped you!
