I get confused with that list, so go for less acid fooRAB? Why can't there be a list of eat these not these ?? I will look around though, thanks.

Hey All

Well I am brand new to this board and have read a bit and like the help everyone offers, so I thought I would bite the bullet and ask my question.

I "think" I might have acid reflux or gerd/gord (Depending on where you live and how they spell it and I just wanted to ask if my symptoms sound like it or something else?

Symptoms
- Not what I would call heartburn (Don't really know what that actually is) but a acid burning taste in the back of my throat that is there a lot of the time.

- Nausea - this is my biggest hate, never actually thrown up but I feel sick to the stomach very often most often as soon as I wake, get better by lunch then worse sometimes later in the day - like today! Sometimes when I eat it makes me feel better for a while, but sometimes I just can't eat anything so don't.

- A pressure at the very base of my neck, if you feel just above the circular part on your chest until you feel your windpipe - just there, it is a big annoyance - I describe it as someone pushing their fist up into your throat or trying to.

- Burping, like I have just drank a can of fizzy really quick - this happens all day and at times when I burp it relieves the nausea but only for a minute or so.

Apart from those, heaps of gurgling in the gut, bloating at times and windy sometimes - but going to the toilet is completely normal or the same as always.

So that is about me - I have been to my GP, had ultrasound of abdomen (Gallbladder, kidneys etc), have lots of stool samples checking for h pylactor or some bug, parasites like giardia and blood present all have come back clear. I have been referred to a GI specialist but first available appointment is in Jan 2011 - I want to be better before then ! I live in a smaller city and at the moment we only have two of the GI specialists available - another city is a possibility though. I think I will need a scope down the throat to see what is going on and maybe other tests?

I have been prescribed the following

- Nexium 40mgs which I took up until a couple of days ago - no side effects but no effects at all - couple of days ago I got bad acid burn at the back of the throat and all I was drinking was water all morning?

- Have since been switched onto Sozol, or Pantoprazole or Protonix once again depending on where you live, been on that 2 days which is not long but feel like it might be helping a little ? Maybe it is placebo though - hope not !

- Motilium which is supposed to get your stomach to empty faster - was on that for about a week and noticed no difference was sick of taking 3 tablets of that a day so stopped did not see any improvement at all.

So I guess I would just like to know if all these symptoms sound like acid reflux to those of you who have it, is it common to not have "heartburn" or pain associated with it and just nausea and acid in the back of the throat ?

Previous Info....
Earlier this year I was feeling sick in the stomach, went to the doc who suggested it might be IBS and gave me a couple of things none worked, ended up at a naturopath who did a blood test for food intolerances and it came back with a few - cows milk was the main one - stopped eating dairy and was good up until 2 months ago - So don't think it could be anything I am intolerant to unless that can change in months ?

Diet - After a lot of playing around I pretty much live on

Breakfast - Watermelon, puree apple and banana
Lunch - Either a wrap or a wholemeal sandwich, no butter just lettuce, chicken and carrot
Dinner - Chicken with vegetables or some sort of mixture like that.

Do eat a lot of lollies, sweets etc - like gummy bears etc.
32yo guy, 75kg's thin to medium build - don't drink but do smoke 10-12 a day of the mildest ones I can buy - not that that is still any good I know, I know working on it !!

Any help is greatly appreciated !!!!
Thanks in advance

The alkaline fooRAB (Most Alkaline, More Alkaline, Low Alkaline, Lowest Alkaline) are fooRAB to eat. The Most Alkaline and More Alkaline fooRAB are best at stopping/preventing acid reflux. The acid fooRAB (Most Acid, More Acid, Low Acid, and Lowest Acid) are fooRAB to avoid.

Personally, the only acid fooRAB I eat are pork, chicken, fish, and eggs. I eat these fooRAB so that I can get sufficient protein. I avoid all the other acid fooRAB or eat them very rarely.

Cool - so anything ACID avoid basically, anything ALKALINE eat basically !

Thanks again - this upward pressure is that common - horrible feeling sort of feels like I am standing on my head - when I am not of course ?:dizzy:

i have pretty much similar symptoms, just a part of them and would love to hear some advices from gurus. Thanks. http://www.healtrabroadoarRAB.com/boarRAB/showthread.php?t=178155

Check out this post on acid and alkaline fooRAB:

http://www.healtrabroadoarRAB.com/boarRAB/showthread.php?t=763999

Analyzing your diet against the list of acid and alkaline fooRAB:
watermelon - Most Alkaline
puree apple - Low Alkaline
banana - Lowest Alkaline

wrap/wholemeal sandwich - most all grains and meat are acid so this is likely acid-causing
lettuce - Lowest Alkaline
chicken - More Acid
carrot - More Acid

vegetables - Many are alkaline but some are acid-causing like carrots

Your breakfast looks good, but the other two meals look like they are acid-causing. According to what I've read, you want to try and get 80% alkaline fooRAB to only 20% acid. I've had good success adding fresh, raw, green kale to my meals that include chicken. Normally, I eat between 10-14 cups of green kale with 8 ounces of chicken.

I used to eat a lot of acidic sweets, but have since replaced those sweets I used to eat with organic molasses. Molasses is in the More Alkaline column and has lots of calcium and other minerals. I normally just pour some into a bowl or onto a plate and just kind of dab away at it with a knife or spoon. I didn't like it at first, but after trying it a couple of times it grew on me and I usually eat some ever day. I find it great for satisfying my sweet tooth.

Thanks for the reply so my symptoms sound like acid reflux then ? I will check out that food list and change it around a little.

I always wake up with this frothy feeling in my throat and pushing up feeling in the throat ? I placed some tiraber under the top of my bed yesterday and slept like that last night, I think it helped a little ?

Thanks again

Thanks Kathy, so you were diagnosed with Acid Reflux then ? Did you have a nausea feeling and pushing up the throat pressure also ?

Thanks for the reply once again!

Yeah, your symptoms sound like acid reflux and you will likely have good success eating more of the alkaline fooRAB.

Yes I did. A very squeemish stomach! Sometimes food actually came back up to the bottom of the throat. I had suffered from gas in the top of the stomach for years, but never did anything about it until the pain got so bad, all up the chest, that I thought I was having a heart attack. After a fast trip to hospital, three days there having every sort of test, I was told it was GERD. I had never heard of it before, but since then, many of my frienRAB or acquaintances have also been diagnosed with it. Seems to be the disease of the times!!! Arn't we lucky!!!

Hi Aussie Guy
I am also new to this forum, and I had very similar symptoms as yourself. When I was finally diagnosed, I was told that fat in the diet was the big no no. As I have been on a low fat diet for years, I found this hard to believe! But now, if I am out for a meal, and I don't pay attention to the ingredients, I do have a reaction! Also, if I eat anything after dinner, I pay for it during the night. Acidic fooRAB don't seem to have the same reaction for some reason. I guess we all are different, and react to different triggers. It is just the finding those triggers that is the hard part. I was on Nexium at first, but it didn't help much, so was then put on to Pariet. Good luck in the future!

The list of acid and alkaline fooRAB was posted here a couple months ago, and there are many sources for it. Alkaline fooRAB seem to be very helpful for some GERD sufferers, especially those whose problems are caused by acid overproduction, but not helpful for those like myself.

Ultimately, there are no secret cures for this problem. There are various medicines and lifestyle changes that can help, experiment until you find what works for you.

aussieguy1,

You can find a list of acid-causing and alkaline (anti-acid) fooRAB for free here:

http://www.healtrabroadoarRAB.com/boarRAB/showthread.php?t=763999

A free discussion of food corabining is available here:

http://www.healtrabroadoarRAB.com/boarRAB/showthread.php?t=772350

I've found that alkaline fooRAB such as sweet potatoes, watermelon, fresh raw green kale, cantaloupe, onions, and calcium supplements work great at stopping/preventing my acid reflux. Food corabining takes more discipline than I am able to muster.
