Fear gripped her heart as she heard them come up behind her, oozing into her dreams and making her wish she had her little Rocky to wake her up... but the dog was dead, and she had no one else who understood her fear like he did. Her only hope was that someone would see her tossing and turning and decide to interrupt it, before the Nightmares grabbed her...
Fern has grown up as a servant, taken in kindly by a strange boy who is somehow so clever and rich that it's strange for him to understand how bad it is, but does not expect such a turn of events when Peter finally unfolds the story of what is going on. They must go and avenge her mother's murder, and end this mad, mysterious figure wanting them dead, and on the way, they make a few friends. But Fern is falling further into her nightmares, and the creatures are beginning to take her as their own. Her only hope is that Annabelle, Logan, Peter, Caroline and Christopher realise that she is the youngest and therefore the first to die in this race against time, and the Puppeteer is getting worse in his scheming... can they beat him and make sure no one else dies? Or will they become simple, dead, like a Nightmare...?
