Does the USA still set a good example for the world?

The USA is the wealthiest country in the world. When I was 7th grade in 1996, my history teacher said, "not everyone can live the way americans do. There are not enough resources on the planet." We want democracy in other countries, but other countries want to be wealthy. Oil is increasing in price and might be more expensive in the future. Is the USA setting a bad example for trying to continue its 20million barrel per day oil habit? Maybe China and India want 20million barrels per day.

NO:

We consume 5-10 times as much oil per person as other industrialized nation.

We are below the top ten in industrial nations in:
Education
Infrastructure
Infant Mortality
Elderly Care
Health care (yes we have the very best health care system AND the costliest)
GDP
Retirement
Work Safety
about 30 other categories where we used to be top 5.

Corporations, however, are healthier than ever, while the American people sink into the morass of mediocrity.

Wonder if there is a correlation?
