You always hear that the USA has the best military but I think its a myth. You cant really say that a country has the best military unless that country fought every country on earth. Understand what I am saying?
So when people say America has the best, I guess they are referring to the technology. They cant possibly be referring to the personnel because I was in the NAVY and dont let be get started on the amount of dirt bags who joined for the GI Bill and BAH.
During the recession I think 90% of people who signed up just did it for the job security. Does that mean they were born to be soldiers and are willing to die for uncle Sam? NO, all it means is that they were in desperate need of money.
So now we have a different question. What makes a military the best? Is it the personnel or the technology? Here is the catch, A county can have the best technology but if the people are in it for the benefits then they will back out when sh*t hits the fan. But if a 3rd world country has limited technology but the personnel joined to kill then that country would have one bad @$$ military.
So to all you service members out there reading this; before you answer I want you to recap your entire career and really think about if our Military is the best or not. Reflect on your training, gear, protocols, coworkers....etc and then answer this question.
Dont just say "we are the best" because you heard Glen Beck say it. Actually use your experience to answer this question.
As for my answer, I think we are up there but I wouldn't say we are the best ( I can only speak for the NAVY). My ship held 300 sailors and only about 20 were committed. The rest joined for the money, hell some even got married to stranger on fleet week just for BAH. Our military can be the best but unfortunately we have people joining for the wrong reasons. I cant really blame them though because there are no jobs in the civilian world
I just hope we dont go to war with any NAVY anytime soon. Because unfortunately most people who are not dedicated join the NAVY because they think we hardly engage in warfare. Those are the same ones who will cost innocent people their lives when sh*t hits the fan and they dont dont wanna participate in 'real' surface warfare. One of my buddies actually ran in the ship when he heard the 50 cal go off. When we finally found him hiding and told him that the gunnersmate was just testing it out, he replied "damn I nearly pissed my pants, I thought we were under attack".....smh
