Does the number of rings matter in debating a players greatness?

People like to argue that this player is better than another player simply because HIS TEAM won more rings. What about Charles Barkley, Reggie Miller, Karl Malone, John Stockton and all the other hall of fame player who NEVER won a ring? Everyone on the team including the bench warmers all get a ring. It doesnt matter how good one individual player is, it only has to do with how good HIS TEAM is. Its a team sport. Rings are a team accomplishment, not an individual one. You could be the best player of all time and never win a ring because your team sucked. Why do people still keep judging a players greatness simply because of how many rings they have? Rings are a measure of the success of the team, not the individual. How many players won more than 6 rings? Does this mean your gonna say they are all better than Michael Jordan?
