Does the Nokia 5230 Sat Nav System NEED Internet?

I am looking at purchasing a Nokia 5230 because of its Sat Nav function (along other things)

However, I am on PAYG and don't want the phone always connecting to the internet.

I am not very "technology-literate" so please could someone explain in plain English. Does the Sat Nav function work in the same way as a 'normal' Tom Tom or Garmin (no internet)

Please could someone explain.
