Does the Nexus one work with AT&T?

I am planning to order the Nexus 1 from Google, and am aware that 3G will not work. But will there be any problems connecting to EDGE and calling? I want to pop in my AT&T SIM card, and be able to connect to the Internet and call people... is this possible? I would prefer an answer from someone who is using the developer phone with AT&T currently...
