Does the Motorola Backflip Phone Have to Have Internet When You Buy it?

Okay, so, I'm thinking about getting this phone, but I don't want to have to get internet to buy it.
I'm on a shared plan with my mom and dad, and my mom had the internet/MMS messaging turned off on all of our phones. Would I still have to get an internet package, even though though we have internet/MMS off?
