Does the military read web traffic entering/leaving their base?

Like if you left for training and you sent and received emails from your family. I know that they look at the traffic, most definitely, but do they actually read it? Even if some of the traffic is personal family matters?
 
If by leave for training you mean shipping out to basic, you wont be seeing any e-mails. If you use your own laptop for e-mail, the military has no part in it. If you use a (public) computer connected to a network, the data will be logged, but no there is not a room full of people reading every E-mail that passes through their lines.
