does the metal backing do anything for blocking sound in dynamat?

im thinking it blocks the higher frequency and keeps in the the sound already in the car, but id like to get a second opinion

i have found some butyl based roofing tape with no metal its made of the same material as dynamat Extreme, would this work as dynamat
