with global warming?
im in southern california...every summer gets ridiculously hotter and every winter gets much colder... its not making sense to me

To the point that if the planet were warming, then there wouldn't be record cold and record snows.

Just a couple of years ago, ski resorts were predicted to be doomed, as "Global Warming" was going to cause snow to disappear, as this was the trend then.

Now we read that warm weather in Houston Texas is got to be a sign of something. If so, then what caused the temps to be even warmer in the 1970's?

Weather is always changing and always dynamic. People look too far into little changes and think it means something. I just believe they either profit from misinformation or don't have a good understanding about science.

No, they are not increasing in the long term. In the long term the average temperature is on a definite upward trend.

you need more detail in the question for anyone to come up with a informed answer.
some information on the location of the increasing cold temperatures, and some data showing the temperatures are cooling would be useful!

Well the cooler temperatures could be due to the effects of la nina which is a period of strong trade winds and abnormally low sea surface temperatures in the central and eastern tropical Pacific. It is the opposite of an El Niño.

Do you have any specific data showing the cooling in the winter in california? Iv just been looking for data from this region to help me answer your question and cant find any.

What i can say is the more extreme temperatures can be caused by climate change.
