Does the IM application cost money on the Samsung Rant?

I know that you can use your phone as sort of a "dummy" IM account, but the Samsung Rant has it's own application for signing onto AIM, Yahoo, and Windows Live Messenger.

I have unlimited texting, but I do not have any sort of internet plan. Can I sign on using this application without incurring any charges? and also, someone mentioned emails; is there any sort of interaction I can do with emails without an internet plan?
I have Sprint
 
with T-mobile all you need is unlimited texts but i would call your Carrier and check.
