Does the gaming industry really hire people to test their games?

Like, nothing more than just sitting in a room and playing a game, making sure that the game works correctly, isn't god awful boring, and possibly making suggestions to make the game better? I know it sounds like a complete fantasy, and in a sense, basically is... But I've read from multiple places that there are these sorts of places actually looking to hire. I'm not exactly looking to know about beta testing, any information would be valuable to me...I'm also not expecting any of what I've already heard to be true, but I just thought I might as well try to confirm here.
 
Yes, the job very much exists. Basically, the workers are given beta versions of the game, and they have to replay the game over and over again to watch for any bugs that might come up.
